The
first phase
consisted of a circular earthwork
formed in the late Neolithic times c.3050 BC. A bank and ditch, 1.8m deep was dug around it's perimeter with the 56 Aubrey holes inside. The earthwork was served by two entrance, one to the NE, as it is today and the other in a southerly direction which was much smaller, It is assumed that this area may have served as a ceremonial meeting place for the tribes. |
