PHASE 2
The second phase lasted around three
centuries, c.2900 - 2600 BC. Archaeological
excavations have discovered a complicated
series of timber post holes.
The timber post settings were mainly
concentrated in the centre and by the NE
entrance, although some can be found
located near to the southern entrance.
The ditch had been allowed to be partially
filled in, Cremated burials were found in the
ditch as well as the 56 Aubrey holes.
The Avenue
This is the name given to the entrance to Stonehenge headed by the 35 ton Heel stone, thought to have been constructed by the "Beaker people" c.2100 BC and later extended 2Km down to the River Avon in the Bronze age times c.1100 BC referred too as phase four.
