The
second phase
lasted around three
centuries, c.2900 - 2600 BC. Archaeological excavations have discovered a complicated series of timber post holes. The timber post settings were mainly concentrated in the centre and by the NE entrance, although some can be found located near to the southern entrance. The ditch had been allowed to be partially filled in, Cremated burials were found in the ditch as well as the 56 Aubrey holes. |

The
Avenue
This is the name given to the entrance to Stonehenge headed by the 35 ton Heel stone, thought to have been constructed by the "Beaker people" c.2100 BC and later extended 2Km down to the River Avon in the Bronze age times c.1100 BC referred too as phase four. |
