The
third phase
initially saw the arrival of the blue-
stones, c2600 - 2400 BC. Each of these 4 ton stones
were arranged in a double crescent facing Northeast.
These holes are now referred to as the Q & R holes.
Around c.2600 BC the construction of the sarsen
circle and Trilithons began and the Bluestones were
reset inside the sarsen circle as we see today.
The Slaughter stones were positioned to form the
entrance and the four Station stones were set
marking alignment with the lunar cycles.
The estimated completion was around 1600 BC.

Z and Y Holes
There are two sets of previously
excavated hole, 3.7m and 11m
outside of the Sarsen circle. They
are thought to be intended for more
bluestone settings but never used.
The holes now are not visible.
